KEWADIN GIVES BACK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

(SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH – December 6, 2013) – Employees and customers at Kewadin Casinos are busy giving back this holiday season.  From food banks, to toys drives, each casino had a special program to help others.  In total, 12,900 lbs. were given to local food pantries.

The Hope Chest Food Pantry in St. Ignace received 2,500 lbs. of canned goods to fill their shelves during the holiday season and to help keep it full throughout the year.

In the Sault, the Salvation Army was the recipient of over 6,000 lbs. of canned goods.  “This donation has helped out tremendously,” said Captain Dan Voss.  “It will help us to fill our December food baskets and keep our pantry full into January.” According to Captain Voss, the number of requests for food pantry boxes has increased over the last month.  More than likely due to government cutbacks.

“It’s great to see employees and customers alike participating in our giving programs,” said Tony Goetz, Kewadin Casinos COO.  “They have big hearts and it’s nice to see our programs making a difference.”

The goods collected from customers and employees were dropped off at each of the five Kewadin Casinos from November 1 – 30.  Customers were given $5 in Kewadin Credits as a token of appreciation for the donation.

The St. Vincent DePaul and Good Neighbors Food Bank shared 4,400 lbs of food collected from Kewadin Manistique customers and employees.  In Christmas, 2,520 of non-perishable items were collected and delivered to the St. Vincent DePaul and the Munising Department of Human Services.  “Our shelves were nearly bare prior to the casino delivering the food,” said Paula Shanks of St. Vincent DePaul.

Team members in Hessel are participating in the Kewadin “Holiday Giving Promotion” by bring in Christmas Candy which will be donated to Santa for the Hessel Children’s Christmas Party.  In addition, nearly 200 canned items were given to the Cedar Post Pantry.
